Fall Back in Love with Your Disaster Recovery Plan
We don’t want to think about the bad things. However, making sure your disaster recovery plan is in order should always be on your mind. You can follow the guidelines set by the National Institute of standards and technology at the U.S. Department of Commerce (NIST) which can be found here: https://csrc.nist.gov/glossary/term/disaster_recovery_plan. Following up with your IT provider and going over your disaster recovery plan is always a good thing. In the event of a disaster or attack, what needs to be done to keep your business running? Make sure to know what data you have enabled for backup? How much time can you afford to be down? Is your data in the cloud or on another site?
These would be important points to consider:
- Identify critical services
- Assess how each would impact workflow / revenue
- Recommend a course of action to mitigate outage
- Recommend corrective action (if possible)
Having a plan of action to asses and respond to a problem, will help you handle and take care of the situation as quickly as possible in order to limit the impact.
