Work Hard, Play Hard

When you work hard you have to play hard as well.

If you’re like me, you work very hard. Whether you’re in IT, you’re a doctor, a firefighter, whatever your occupation is, you tend to focus all that attention to what you do and you probably would give 200% if you could. But what about when it’s time to relax and unwind? Do you do the same thing? Well, if you aren’t then you definitely should and what better way to do that than to explore your own backyard, if you will. I personally like to unwind from the week by going fishing and most people don’t associate El Paso with a fishing destination at all. But there are plenty of places to visit that are only a short drive or two away. For instance, you could fish the Rio Grande anywhere between Executive Street all the way to State of Colorado, where the Rio starts with those snow feed streams. Unfortunately, the river here in El Paso doesn’t run year-round anymore. But when it is running, the canals, the river feeds, and the river itself can produce some phenomenal results for catfish. Of course, there are other species to be caught as well. You can fish up and down the river all the way to Caballo Lake and even Elephant Butte, which is about 2 hours away. It goes without saying that these few places don’t do our region justice, as there are plenty of excellent spots. (But a good fisherman never revels his/or her honey pots.) I love fishing, it helps clear my mind and relaxes me, makes me feel like I don’t have a care in the world, that is until Monday when all the servers go down. Here is a fishing tip for you, a guaranteed tip to catch fish. The secret to catching a lot of fish is, fishing where the fish are. That’s the wisest and most insightful thing I have ever read, and it applies to a lot of things we do.

Until next time good luck!
